Niger Delta Congress to hold massive protest in Port Harcourt over Rivers’ emergency rule

The Niger Delta Congress (NDC) has announced a massive demonstration scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025, in response to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the State House of Assembly in Rivers State.
The protest, which will begin at 7:00 AM at Isaac Boro Park, aims to call for the restoration of democratic governance in the state.
In a statement issued on April 3, the NDC criticized the imposition of a state of emergency and the removal of elected officials, labeling the move as an assault on democracy and the citizens of Rivers State.
“These actions undermine the will of the people and threaten the stability of the Niger Delta region,” stated Mudlaga Ogboru, the National Spokesperson for the NDC.
The group has encouraged citizens to participate in the protest while adhering to legal guidelines, emphasizing solidarity and justice. “Together, we stand united in our pursuit of justice,” the statement further read.
The political unrest in Rivers State has garnered significant attention, with many questioning the legality and motivations behind the suspension of vital state institutions. As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on Port Harcourt next Monday to witness how the protest develops.
