The Lagos State Government has sealed Westbrook Mall in Lekki and arrested 24 individuals for defying state regulations, according to the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.
Wahab made this known in a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, revealing that the mall’s management had previously disregarded government orders on two separate occasions.
The commissioner said, “Sequel to the contravention by the Management of Westbrook Mall, and having broken the State government Seal order on two separate occasions, a joint LSWMO and KAI Enforcement exercise was carried out on the facility this morning, Thursday 3rd April, 2025.”
According to the commissioner, the mall, located in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area had been sealed before for similar violations but continued to operate against government directives.
Wahab said that as part of the enforcement action, 24 individuals were arrested and would be prosecuted. The property was also resealed to prevent further unauthorised operations.
He said, “Actions taken – 24 people were arrested and to be prosecuted. The property was resealed.”
Additionally, Wahab emphasised that the management of Westbrook Mall would be required to pay all necessary fines in accordance with Lagos State laws.
“The property will also be mandated to pay all necessary Fines in line with the State laws,” he said.
The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to enforcing compliance with environmental and regulatory standards, warning businesses against flouting established regulations.
