Sarki Yorubawa Kano condemns Uromi killings, calls for peace, tolerance

The Sarki Yorubawa Kano, Muritala Alimi Otiseese Adetimirin I, has strongly condemned the recent brutal killings of travellers in Uromi, Edo State, describing the incident as tragic and deeply distressing.
In a statement personally signed by him on Tuesday, Adetimirin I expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and all those affected by the act of mob violence. He urged non-indigenes to remain calm and avoid retaliatory actions.
“We recognize the gravity of this situation and urge all non-indigenes in Kano to remain calm and law-abiding. The governments of both Edo and Kano States, along with relevant security agencies, are actively handling the matter, and we have confidence in their ability to ensure justice and maintain peace. We firmly appeal to all residents not to take the law into their own hands.
“At this sacred period, coming right after the just-concluded Ramadan and as the Christian faithful continue their Lent observance, we must all embrace the spirit of peace, tolerance, and unity. Islam and Christianity both teach patience, forgiveness, and the value of human life. Let us honor these teachings by fostering harmony in our communities.
“The leadership of the non-indigenes in Kano stands in solidarity with the government of both states in addressing this situation and ensuring that justice prevails. We urge all community leaders, youth groups, and stakeholders to actively promote peace and unity, refraining from any act that could escalate tensions.
“We pray for the souls of the departed, the healing of the bereaved families, and for continued peace in our great nation.”
