Nigerian man sentenced to life in Italy for rape, murder

A Nigerian man, Chukwuka Nweke, has been sentenced to life imprisonment in Italy for the rape and murder of 61-year-old Iris Setti in Rovereto, Trento.

The incident occurred on August 5, 2023, when Nweke attacked Setti in a public park. According to ANSA Italy, he was found guilty of aggravated murder, robbery, and sexual violence and sentenced last week.

Witnesses claimed that Nweke, who is a known abuser of drugs and alcohol, viciously attacked the woman, threw her on the ground, hitting her face and head with his fists and a blunt object.

He fled the area but was caught a short time later by members of the Carabinieri, who stopped him on the Via Maioliche and were forced to use their tasers to subdue and arrest him.

The victim was taken to a local hospital but due to the severity of the injuries she had suffered, she d!ed several hours later.
