Wike rejoices after Supreme Court judgement against Rivers govt

A video has surfaced showing the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, celebrating the Supreme Court’s decision on the political crisis in Rivers State.

On Friday, the court ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant General of the Federation to halt financial allocations to the Rivers State government. This directive will remain in effect until Governor Sim Fubara ceases actions deemed illegal and unconstitutional by the court.

The ruling further mandated that funds would only be released once a valid Appropriation Law is passed by the state House of Assembly, under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule, a known ally of Wike.

Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, delivering the judgment, instructed the 27 lawmakers loyal to Wike to resume legislative duties immediately. The five-member panel, led by Justice Musa Uwani Aba-Aji, ruled unanimously that it was improper for Governor Fubara to run the state with just 4 out of 32 legislators.

In addition, the Supreme Court nullified the local government elections held on October 5, 2024, declaring the exercise invalid and unlawful.

In response to the court’s decision, Wike shared a video of himself singing and expressing gratitude to God.

The former Rivers governor was joined by Senator Philip Aduda, and other political allies as he sang gospel songs joyfully including the one titled ‘God Has Honoured Me.
