ASUU begins indefinite strike, halts activities in state varsity

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sokoto Chapter, has announced the commencement of an indefinite strike, starting Wednesday.
According to the union, the decision stems from unresolved issues with the university management, governing council, and the Sokoto State government. ASUU criticized the lack of action in addressing their concerns, leading to the complete shutdown of academic operations on campus.
During a congress meeting held at the Centre for Caliphate Studies, members evaluated the government’s response to their demands. Dissatisfied with the authorities’ commitment, the union resolved to halt all academic activities, including exams, student supervision, script marking, grading, and statutory meetings.
“The union also activated its strike monitoring committee to ensure strict compliance with the directive,” stated the communique issued after the meeting.
The resolution was endorsed by ASUU-SSU Chairperson, Dr. Saidu Abubakar, and Secretary, Hassan Aliyu.
