Police arrest suspected thugs over planned protest at Emir Bayero’s palace

The Kano State Police Command has arrested 17 individuals suspected of plotting a protest at Nassarawa Palace, the residence of Aminu Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano.
The longstanding dispute over the Kano emirship reignited in May 2024 following the reported reinstatement of Muhammad Sanusi II by the Kano State government.
On Wednesday, Haruna Kiyawa, spokesperson for the Kano police command, issued a warning to residents, urging them to abandon plans for the demonstration.

“The command wishes to warn all individuals and groups against engaging in any form of unlawful gathering, procession, or violence. Such actions will be met with a swift and decisive response from the security agencies,” he said.
Kiyawa emphasized that security forces had been strategically deployed across Kano to maintain public safety and prevent unrest.
“Following credible intelligence reports of a planned violent protest by some individuals, the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has deployed personnel and assets to strategic locations within Kano Metropolis to prevent the protest and ensure public safety,” he added.
