El-Rufai explains absence from APC national caucus meeting

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has shared the reason behind his absence from the All Progressives Congress (APC) national caucus meeting held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
Speaking in a recent interview with Arise TV, El-Rufai cited inadequate notice for the meeting and prior travel arrangements as the key reasons for missing the gathering.
The APC national caucus meeting is a crucial forum where the party’s top leaders — including the president, vice president, national chairman, National Working Committee members, APC state governors, former governors, ministers, and key National Assembly figures — come together to discuss party strategies. The meeting helps align leadership on political priorities before discussions are escalated to the National Executive Committee (NEC), which involves broader party leadership and economic decision-makers.
During the interview, El-Rufai stated: “Unfortunately, I won’t attend the APC national caucus meeting, because I will be on my way to Cairo where I spend most of my time. I didn’t get adequate notice.”
He further emphasized the importance of proper notification:
“The Constitution of our party requests 21 days or I think 14 days’ notice for this kind of national organ meeting. I don’t think that notice was given. If it was given, I don’t think I’d received such an invitation.”
Despite missing the meeting, El-Rufai expressed confidence that his absence wouldn’t affect his awareness of party developments:
“I’ve my plans, and I am leaving tomorrow. Many of my friends will attend and they will give me updates, I don’t think I will miss anything. Ramadan is starting. I’ve made my own plans too. When the party meets, I think I’ve shouted loud and clear. So we’ll wait and see what the party will do about it. I don’t have to be there. I’m not the only member of the party that’s unhappy.”
