APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe undergoes surgery after swallowing bone with pounded yam

Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has revealed a painful experience that led to emergency surgery after accidentally swallowing a bone hidden in his meal.

Sharing his ordeal on Facebook, Igbokwe recounted that the incident occurred on the night of Monday, February 17, when he was eating pounded yam with okro soup. Unaware of the bone, he swallowed it, causing it to lodge in his throat and triggering severe discomfort.

Despite trying to ease the blockage by eating more food, the bone refused to move, leading to intense pain that persisted through the night.

He sought medical attention the following morning, where an initial scan failed to detect the bone. Doctors prescribed medication, but the pain lingered, leaving him unable to eat solid foods for days.

Recounting his experience, he wrote:“On Monday night of February 17 I was served a very soft pounded yam and okro soup. The first lump I took got stuck inside my throat.“The big bone I did not notice when I swallowed the food seized my throat. I started forcing the bone down my throat with multiple lumps but all to no avail. The big trouble started.”

As the pain persisted, Igbokwe returned to the hospital for another scan, which revealed the bone had moved to his stomach, leaving multiple internal injuries.

“I suffered from that Monday night till yesterday evening when I returned to the hospital for another scan only to notice the bone had slid down my stomach with multiple wounds.

“A major surgery commenced. They gave me a sedative and I slept off. The rest is now history. I woke up to notice the excruciating pains had subsided and vanished into the thin air,” he shared.

Grateful for the care he received, Igbokwe thanked the medical teams at Marigold and Conel hospitals in Surulere, expressing his relief and faith.

“Thank You Marigold Hospital Surulere. Thank you Conel Hospital Surulere. To God Be The Glory, Amen. And Endless Alleluia!!!”
