Kogi diaspora group urges APC to woo Leke Abejide

Kogi in Diaspora Association has called on the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, to take decisive steps towards bringing Hon. Leke Abejide into the ruling party.
In a statement issued by the association’s Global Deputy Leader, Seyi Olorunsola, the group emphasized that Abejide, a distinguished legislator and the member representing Yagba West, Yagba East, and Mopamuro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, would be a strategic addition to APC.
“Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide has proven himself as a dynamic leader with an outstanding track record of legislative contributions and grassroots development. His influence in Kogi West and beyond makes him a critical asset to the APC,” the statement read.
The association highlighted Hon. Abejide’s achievements, including his sponsorship of the Nigeria Customs and Excise Management Amendment Bill, which played a pivotal role in modernizing customs policies. As Chairman of the House Committee on Customs, he has also spearheaded key reforms in revenue generation and border management.
Beyond his work in the National Assembly, Hon. Abejide is widely recognized for his people-oriented initiatives, including the full payment of WAEC and NECO fees for students in his constituency, infrastructure development, economic empowerment programs, and healthcare initiatives.
“These projects have endeared him to the people, making him one of the most popular and beloved politicians in Kogi West. His maturity during the recent governorship election, where he emerged as a major contender and accepted the outcome without litigation, further proves his statesmanship,” the statement added.
The group expressed the belief that bringing Abejide into the APC would not only strengthen the party’s dominance in Kogi State but also enhance its influence in the National Assembly.
“As we look towards future electoral cycles, securing the membership of a political heavyweight like Hon. Abejide will provide the APC with a substantial advantage at both the state and national levels. His grassroots appeal, legislative expertise, and youth mobilization capacity are assets that the party cannot afford to overlook.”
The association urged Dr. Ganduje and other key stakeholders in the APC to initiate strategic discussions to facilitate Hon. Abejide’s transition into the party, assuring their support in making the move a reality.
