JUST IN: Drama at Edo governorship tribunal as Okpebholo’s witness admits over-voting

The resumed sitting of the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Monday, February 10, 2025, took a dramatic turn as a witness for Governor Monday Okpebholo crumbled under intense cross-examination by lawyers representing the petitioners.
Governor Okpebholo’s victory in the September 21, 2024 election is being contested by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.
The key witness, Usman Majek, from Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa’s Ovia South West LGA, made a startling admission of over-voting during the election.
The unexpected confession left Okpebholo’s legal team visibly unsettled, prompting his lawyer to abruptly close his case after presenting only one witness.
Caught off guard, the All Progressives Congress (APC) legal representative, who was next to present his case, requested an adjournment to reorganize their strategy.
The tribunal granted the plea and adjourned proceedings until Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
