Police officer k!lls self in Niger

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Shafi’u Bawa, serving with the 61 Police Mobile Force in Kontagora, the headquarters of Kontagora Local Government Area, Niger State, has reportedly died by suic!de.

Sources within the police force revealed that Bawa’s body was discovered on Saturday afternoon, hanging from the ceiling of his residence. His father, Mallam Usman Bawa, was the first to raise the alarm and subsequently reported the incident to the Kontagora Police Division.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said:

“On 8/2/2025 at about 2 pm, it was reported that one ASP Shafiu Bawah of 61 PMF Kontagora committed suicide by hanging himself on the ceiling due to a yet-to-be-ascertained reason. The body was removed and released to the family for burial. The incident is under investigation to ascertain the reason for such action.”

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
