2027 : Aregbesola, Kwankwaso hold high-level talks in Lagos

In what appears to be a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, convened for a closed-door meeting in Lagos.
According to a source within political circles, the meeting, described as a “marathon session,” focused on strategic discussions related to the upcoming elections. “Aregbesola and Kwankwaso just finished from a marathon meeting in Lagos where they strategised on the 2027 election,” the source revealed on Saturday night.
While specific details of the discussions remain undisclosed as of press time, the timing of the meeting has sparked widespread speculation given the current political climate surrounding both figures.
Kwankwaso, who was the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has been embroiled in internal party conflicts, with a faction of the NNPP claiming to have suspended him amid leadership tussles. The rift within the party has raised questions about his political future and the unity of the NNPP ahead of the next electoral cycle.
On the other hand, Aregbesola, a former Osun State governor and once a close ally of President Bola Tinubu, is navigating his own political challenges. He was recently expelled from the All Progressives Congress (APC) over allegations of anti-party activities, a development that has fueled speculations about his next political moves and potential alliances.
The meeting between the two influential politicians is seen by analysts as a possible indication of emerging political realignments, as both men seek to consolidate their influence ahead of 2027.
Although no official statement has been released from either camp, political observers believe the Lagos meeting could mark the beginning of a new alliance or strategy that may reshape Nigeria’s political landscape in the coming years.
Efforts to reach aides of both Aregbesola and Kwankwaso for comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
