A mosque in the Agege area of Lagos State, known as ‘Mosalasi Alhaja,’ has been sealed off by the Agege Local Government over a leadership dispute following the death of its Chief Imam.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the council’s Executive Chairman, Chief Ganiyu Egunjobi, announced the directive, citing concerns over public peace and order.

The dispute stems from a disagreement between the family of the late Chief Imam, Sheikh Habib Abdulmajid, and his deputy, Sheikh Mustapha Muktar.

Egunjobi explained that the decision to close the mosque was taken to prevent any potential unrest and to address growing tensions within the Hausa community in the area.

“The directive, which is effective immediately, aims to avert any disruption of public peace,” he said.

During a visit to the mosque, the chairman ensured the directive was enforced and assured residents that adequate security measures would be implemented to maintain calm in the community.

He added that all parties involved would be summoned for a stakeholders’ meeting to resolve the leadership crisis and restore normalcy.
