BREAKING: House of Reps member dies suddenly after brief illness

Tragedy struck Nigeria’s political landscape with the passing of Hon. Oriyomi Adewunmi Onanuga, a member of the Federal House of Representatives and Deputy Chief Whip.
She represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency and died after a brief illness at the age of 60.
Born on December 2, 1965, in Hammersmith, London, to Nigerian parents, Onanuga had a distinguished career as a politician and entrepreneur. She first won her seat in the House of Representatives in 2019 under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In 2023, she was appointed Deputy Chief Whip, a role in which she demonstrated her commitment to effective legislative governance.
During her tenure, Onanuga also served as chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development. She was a vocal advocate for gender equality and societal welfare, championing key policies aimed at empowering women and improving social infrastructure.
