The Lagos State Police Command has arrested seven individuals in connection with the killings of two Uber drivers in the Lekki and Ajah areas of Lagos State.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olarenwaju Ishola, disclosed this during a press briefing on Saturday, highlighting recent successes of the command.

According to Ishola, two separate syndicates—one with four members and the other with three—were apprehended for allegedly committing the crimes.

In the first case, a four-man group identified as Emeka Akwara (19), David Segun (21), Samuel Ariori (21), and Lukman Ariori (19), allegedly murdered a driver after luring him to a secluded area.

“On Jan. 9, the suspects ordered an Uber ride at Chevron in Lekki, heading to Obalende. Upon reaching a lonely area in Obalende, they attacked the driver, stabbing him multiple times in the neck. Unfortunately, they were unable to steal the vehicle,” Ishola stated.

The commissioner explained that two of the suspects were immediately caught by passersby and handed over to the police, while further investigations led to the arrest of the remaining two.

“The deceased’s body was deposited at the Mainland Hospital Yaba morgue. A Toyota Camry Big Daddy with the plate number AGL 650 HN and knives were recovered from the suspects,” he added.

In a separate incident, three suspects—Edmond Julius (34), Abdullahi Umar (32), and Saturday Oke (40)—were arrested for the alleged murder of another Uber driver, Oluwaseyi Fowler, in September.

“The suspects confessed to kidnapping the driver in Ajah, murdering him, and stealing his Toyota Camry. They sold the car to a criminal receiver. During the investigation, police recovered the deceased’s decomposed body and the stolen vehicle,” Ishola said.

The suspects have since been charged to court, according to the police commissioner.

He advised drivers working with Uber and similar ride-hailing services to remain cautious of their passengers.

“If possible, avoid carrying more than one passenger at a time, and ensure your passenger is searched and seated at the front with you,” Ishola cautioned.

The commissioner further revealed plans to summon ride-hailing drivers for a security workshop to enhance their safety measures.
