Diesel reservoir Trapped factory workers die in Lagos

Two factory workers who were rescued by Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the state fire service have tragically passed away.

The workers had become trapped while performing maintenance on a diesel reservoir in the Ikosi area of Lagos.

According to Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, the incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Saturday. The victims were reportedly working on repairs when one of them fell into the diesel reservoir, prompting the second worker to attempt a rescue.

“Both victims sustained severe conditions and were promptly transported to the hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) after receiving first aid, including CPR,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated. “First aid (including CPR) were administered on the victims immediately after their rescue. Both individuals (adult males) were evacuated and transported to the hospital for further medical attention.”

Despite medical efforts, both men, who were adults, later succumbed to their injuries. The incident site has since been secured, and emergency responders are continuing to assess the area to prevent future accidents of this nature.

“The two male adults earlier rescued this morning by the LASEMA Response Team, resuscitated and transported to the hospital, unfortunately, despite all sustained medical efforts later died. No more updates on the development and operations have been concluded,” added Oke-Osanyintolu.
