Police have arrested a 29-year-old man accused of killing his mother for ritual purposes in Cross River State.

The state police spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the arrest on Friday in Calabar.

The incident occurred on December 25, 2024, in Batriko, located in Eastern Boki Local Government Area.

Sources revealed that a joint operation involving police and the Obudu council’s security team led to the suspect’s arrest.

Reports alleged that the man had allegedly dumped his mother’s body in a well in Obudu Local Government Area, prompting a manhunt by authorities.

The suspect was apprehended alongside a native doctor, with whom he had been in hiding. Investigators reportedly found a bag containing the shaved hair of the deceased mother at the scene of the arrest.

“As I speak with you, the suspect and the native doctor are presently cooling off at the Obudu Divisional Police Headquarters,” said a source familiar with the case.

It was gathered that the suspect allegedly shaved his mother’s hair before disposing of her body in the well. Both he and the native doctor are now in police custody as investigations continue.
