10 die along Kaduna Abuja Expressway

The Kaduna State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 10 lives were lost in a tragic accident on the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway.

Sector Commander Kabir Nadabo provided details of the incident, which occurred on Thursday at Kasari village along the expressway.

According to Nadabo, “A Toyota Hiace bus with registration number GDW190XA experienced a head-on collision with a truck with registration number SMK141XN, both of which were commercial vehicles.”

He further explained that a coordinated rescue effort involving FRSC personnel from RS1.114 Zhipe, RS1.16B Dutse Outpost, the Nigerian Police Force, and military personnel managed the aftermath of the crash.

Preliminary findings revealed that 16 people were involved in the accident, comprising eight males and eight females. “Six people died instantly, four others were injured but succumbed to their injuries at the hospital in Rijana, while six individuals escaped unharmed,” Nadabo disclosed.

The crash was attributed to wrongful overtaking and dangerous driving. “After the collision, the bus was set ablaze due to the impact of the crash, though the truck occupants were not injured,” he added.

Nadabo said while the command recorded fewer road fatalities during the ember season, this particular incident underscores the ongoing challenges on the roads.

“The FRSC remains committed to engaging transport unions and sensitizing the public to safe driving practices,” he said. Nadabo urged drivers to avoid vices such as overloading, speeding, dangerous driving, and driving under the influence of drugs.

He also praised the Kaduna State Government for its consistent support of FRSC initiatives, which he credited with reducing crashes and improving emergency response times along major routes like the Kaduna-Abuja and Kaduna-Zaria-Kano highways.

Nadabo expressed gratitude to journalists for their role in promoting road safety awareness and reiterated the corps’ commitment to ensuring safer roads in 2025.
