How policeman celebrating colleague’s promotion mistakenly killed young woman

A nursing mother, Ifeoluwa Adekolu, tragically lost her life in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, due to an accidental discharge from a police officer’s firearm. The incident occurred near the Oke-Ila Police Station.

According to witnesses, the woman was standing across the road from the station when a policeman, visiting from another division, fired his weapon in celebration of a colleague’s recent promotion. Unfortunately, a stray bullet struck her, leading to her death.

Efforts were made to save the victim, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Confirming the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Adewale Adeniran, who was recently promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), stated that the officer responsible has been disarmed and taken into custody.

“The officer will undergo interrogation in accordance with the Nigeria Police Act,” AIG Adeniran said.
