Nigerian gov approves 13 month salary for state workers retirees

Zamfara State workers and retirees are set to enjoy a 13-month salary following the approval of Governor Dauda Lawal.

This initiative marks the second time the state has implemented such a policy, signaling its commitment to improving workers’ welfare.

The announcement, made via a circular from the Zamfara State Head of Service on December 28, revealed that beneficiaries would receive 30% of their basic salary as the 13-month payment.

Sulaiman Idris, spokesperson for Governor Lawal, confirmed that both active workers and retirees would benefit from this gesture, emphasizing the governor’s dedication to ensuring financial relief and motivation for public servants.

Idris said in the statement, “This initiative acknowledges the dedication and hard work of the Zamfara workforce by providing them with extra financial support during the holiday season.

“The 13th month salary payment initiative is one of several ideas to empower workers and foster economic growth in Zamfara State,” he said.

He further noted that the Zamfara state government has already cleared over N10 billion in gratuities owed retirees over the past 11 years.

In addition, the state government has approved the new N70,000 national minimum wage of N70,000 for all workers in the state.
