How Fubara stopped ‘one man’ from turning Rivers into his private estate – Odili

Former Rivers State governor and ex-presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Peter Odili, has praised Governor Siminalayi Fubara for thwarting what he described as an attempt by ‘one man’ to dominate Rivers State politically.
PlatinumPost reports that Fubara has been at dagger-drawn with his then political leader and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Speaking at a Christmas ballad organized in honour of Governor Fubara and his family, Odili commended the governor for his resilience in resisting what he termed an unnecessary political conflict.
“Governor Fubara confronted the challenge, prevented the quest by one man to capture the State as a private estate, emancipated Rivers people, steadied governance, and made civil servants and Rivers people happier as it used to be until he left office in 2007,” Odili said.
He noted that since October 25, 2023, Fubara has demonstrated courage in handling what he referred to as a fierce but unwarranted political struggle for the soul of Rivers State.
The event, Odili explained, was a gesture of appreciation for Fubara’s leadership and determination.
Fubara Reflects on Political Challenges
In his response, Governor Fubara expressed gratitude for the support of Rivers residents during the political crisis, attributing his success to divine intervention.
“My strength is drawn from every one of you here. You gave me encouragement; you do the work for me; you make the calls for me. So, why won’t I stand up for you?” he remarked.
Fubara added that the experience had given him a new perspective on leadership. “The ultimate liberator and fighter still remains God Almighty. And because we have Him on our side, victory is assured,” he said.
Looking ahead to 2025, the governor assured residents of a more prosperous future and vowed to continue governing in the best interest of the state.
Key Supporters Laud Fubara
Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, recounted the challenges faced during the political crisis in the Assembly and credited Fubara’s leadership for emboldening him and others to stand for truth.
Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, expressed surprise at his continued tenure amid the crisis, describing it as a divinely orchestrated liberation for the state.
Former Minister of Transport, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, commended Fubara for blending Odili’s leadership traits with his own, creating a governance style that has made Rivers residents proud.
Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd), Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), also thanked the Odili family for hosting the event and praised the humility displayed by Fubara and his family.
