Fire guts 11-storey building in Lagos

A late-night fire broke out on the 11th floor of “The Ultimate Apartments,” an 11-storey residential building in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that its teams successfully rescued all occupants and prevented the blaze from spreading further.
According to Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, the agency was alerted to the incident at 10:16 p.m. on Friday via the toll-free emergency lines 767 and 112.
“Following distress calls received through the 767 and 112 toll-free emergency lines at 22.16hrs, LASEMA activated its response teams from Lekki, Onipan and the Command and Control Centre, Alausa,” Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
Upon arrival, responders discovered that a fire had engulfed the 11th floor of the building. Although the source of the fire remains unclear, investigators confirmed that the blaze originated from one of the apartments.
While battling the flames, LASEMA teams also educated residents on the dangers of smoke inhalation during fire emergencies. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties or injuries.
“The fire has been completely extinguished and damping down completed,” Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed.
