Nursing mother arrested for thr0wing 10-month-old baby into r!ver

The Delta State Police Command has detained a nursing mother, Blessing Jonathan, for allegedly throwing her 10-month-old baby into a river.
The incident, confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, reportedly occurred after Jonathan endured relentless verbal abuse from neighbours and other women who labeled her child a “bastard.”
According to Edafe, Jonathan became pregnant but was unable to identify the father of her child. Despite the challenges, she cared for the baby for 10 months. However, the constant gossip and taunting about the baby’s paternity pushed her to commit the act.
“She decided to throw the child into the river to escape the humiliation,” Edafe stated.

Three days after the incident, Jonathan and her aunt reported the baby missing at a local police station. The police later received information about a baby’s body floating in the river and moved to retrieve it.
“When the body was recovered, it was identified as the missing child,” Edafe explained. “At that point, the suspect broke down in tears and admitted to throwing her baby into the river.”
In a video shared by the police, Jonathan can be heard explaining her actions, attributing them to anger and frustration caused by the gossip surrounding her baby’s paternity.
“The father abandoned us, and it was just me and my family taking care of the baby,” she said. She identified the child’s father as a man named Mr. Ugo but noted that he never introduced her to his family.
“I decided to keep the baby, give it a family name, and take care of it. But the constant judgment and gossip from people made me snap,” she added.
Jonathan expressed remorse for her actions. “I miss my baby, and I regret what I did. It feels like I should go and wake up the baby.”
