Nigerian university sets deadline, weekly fine for unclaimed certificates

One of the federal universities in the country, University of Ilorin has called on its graduates, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, to retrieve their uncollected certificates without further delay.
In a memorandum dated December 18, the university highlighted the accumulation of unclaimed certificates as the reason for issuing this directive.
According to the Registrar, M.A. Alfanla, graduates have until Friday, January 17, 2025, to claim their certificates. After this deadline, a fine of ₦3,000 will be imposed for each week of delay.

“The University Management, therefore, urges all affected graduates to collect their certificates on or before Friday, 17 January 2025. Failure to do so thereafter will attract a fine of ₦3,000.00 per week,” the memo read.
To facilitate a smooth collection process, the university advised graduates to bring along the required documents, including proof of payment for convocation, the original Statement of Results, their Student Identification Card, and any other relevant documents.
