Woman remanded in prison over alleged threats against Seyi Tinubu

Olamide Thomas, accused of making death threats against Seyi Tinubu through social media, appeared before a Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday and was remanded in custody.
The case, presented by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, was heard by Justice Emeka Nwite. Thomas faced a three-count charge but pleaded not guilty to all allegations.
Thomas was arrested for allegedly threatening Seyi Tinubu, the I-G of Police, and the Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a viral social media video.
The charge, filed on Dec. 18 and marked FHC/ABJ/CR/636/2024, named Thomas as the sole defendant. During the hearing, the prosecution’s counsel, Victor Okoye, stated readiness for the arraignment. After the charges were read, Thomas maintained her not-guilty plea.

Her lawyer, T.J. Aondo, SAN, sought to make an oral application for bail, but Justice Nwite insisted on a formal written application. The judge adjourned the case to Dec. 30 for trial, assuring that a bail application would be promptly considered once filed.
Thomas was ordered to remain at the Suleja Correctional Centre until her bail application is reviewed.
In the first count, Thomas was accused of transmitting a video in Yoruba, stating that “Mr. Seyi Tinubu would die this year, and misfortune and calamity had befallen the Tinubu family,” allegedly intending to intimidate and threaten him.
The second count alleged that she made similar threats against Mr. Egbetokun, claiming he was at risk of violence or harm.
In the third count, Thomas allegedly made statements targeting Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, saying his children would die before his eyes and that “he will bury all his children in a single day.”
The alleged actions violated Section 24(2)(a) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024, which carries penalties for such offenses.
The trial continues as the court awaits a formal bail application.
