Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has opened up about being offered performance-enhancing drugs during his playing career.

Mikel Obi shared this revelation on the latest episode of his Obi One podcast, where he addressed the recent news of Mykhailo Mudryk, the current Chelsea winger, failing a drug test and receiving a provisional suspension from the Football Association.

Mudryk, who has denied any wrongdoing, issued a statement asserting his innocence.

“I hope for his sake and his family that he is innocent,” Mikel said on the Obi One podcast. “I remember when I was playing, if someone offered me something, I would always ask them what it was.”

“I’m responsible for what I put in my body, what I eat, and all that. People will offer you things—friends, or even friends of friends—telling you it’ll boost your performance by one or two percent. And I’d always ask, ‘What is this? Is it legal?’”

Mikel emphasized that he would reject such offers and urged players to be accountable for their actions. “I tell them to go away; I don’t want to talk about it. We have to take responsibility for what we consume. But for now, Mudryk is innocent until proven guilty.”
