FG approves increased allowances for public service officers

The Federal Government has announced an upward review of various allowances for officers in the public service.
This significant decision is aimed at improving the welfare of public servants and includes adjustments to Duty Tour Allowance, transport allowances, uniform allowances, and overtime allowances.
The decision was finalized during the 46th meeting of the National Council on Establishment (NCE), chaired by Didi Walson-Jack, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
The NCE is the highest policy-making body for matters related to public service and comprises the Heads of Service from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The meeting followed a two-day technical session led by the Permanent Secretary of the Service Policies and Strategies Office. This session brought together permanent secretaries and directors of establishments from across the country, with the Director of Organisation Design and Development serving as secretary.
During the council meeting, 32 memoranda were reviewed. Out of these, six were approved, eight were deferred, six were rejected, seven were referred to the Standing Committee for further review, one was noted, and three were scheduled for re-presentation.
One of the approved decisions was the upward review of allowances, which is expected to positively impact public service officers.
The report stated, “An upward review of rates of allowances paid to officers in the Public Service and a comprehensive review of the Schemes of Service to reflect the Council’s approvals.”
