Over 50 women abducted at defence minister’s hometown

In a tragic incident, more than 50 women and children were reportedly kidnapped in an attack on Saturday in Kakin-Dawa, the hometown of Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, in Zamfara State.
The attack, carried out by armed bandits, took place in the Gidan Goga district of Maradun Local Government Area.
According to residents, the assailants arrived on motorcycles at around 1:30 a.m. and conducted a house-to-house raid, targeting mostly women and girls.
Hassan Ya’u, a local resident whose younger sister was among the abducted, confirmed that the bandits moved methodically, abducting multiple residents.
When contacted, Yazeed Abubakar, the police spokesperson for Zamfara State, stated that he had not received a detailed briefing from the divisional police officer due to poor telecommunications in the area.
“We are appealing to the federal and Zamfara State governments to send more soldiers and security personnel to fight these bandits”, Mr Ya’u appealed.
A similar attack occurred in September, where the bandits abducted over 40 persons at Janboka, a community in the same Maradun LGA.
Residents said the terrorists struck despite the presence of local security guards in the community, lamenting that attacks in the area had become frequent.
Maradun is the hometown of the Minister of State for Defence, Mr Matawalle, who is the immediate past governor of the state.
