Female motorist faces prosecution for assaulting FRSC officials in Lagos Watch video

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expressed deep concern over the increasing cases of assaults on its personnel while performing their lawful duties.

In response to a recent incident, the Corps Marshal has ordered a thorough investigation and immediate prosecution of a motorist who physically attacked FRSC officers

The incident occurred on November 7, 2024, along the Oko-Ado Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos State. According to reports, the FRSC patrol team flagged down a Toyota Corolla with registration number EPE690HH for a seatbelt violation.

Upon inspecting the vehicle’s documents, it was discovered that the papers had expired since December 2022, prompting the officers to impound the vehicle.

While the driver cooperated with the officers, a female passenger in the vehicle became aggressive, verbally abusing the officers and threatening legal action against them.

Her disruptive behavior escalated as she attempted to garner unwarranted sympathy from passersby. When these efforts failed, she resorted to physical assault, continuing her attacks even as the vehicle was impounded at the FRSC Lekki Command.

Efforts by the officers to de-escalate the situation proved futile. As a result, the Unit Commander sought the assistance of the Divisional Police Officer from Ajah Police Station. A police team was promptly dispatched to arrest both the passenger and the driver for further investigation.

The Corps Marshal commended the professionalism and civility exhibited by the FRSC Unit Commander, Chief Route Commander AM Usman, and the entire team during the ordeal. He described their conduct as a true reflection of the Corps’ ideals.

In a statement, the Corps Marshal urged the public to resolve grievances through proper administrative channels or legal avenues rather than resorting to violence.

He warned that any form of assault on FRSC personnel would no longer be tolerated and assured that justice would be served swiftly to deter similar incidents in the future.
