Court denies bail to human rights activist, Dele Farotimi

A magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti has denied bail to human rights activist Dele Farotimi, who is facing charges of alleged defamation against Afe Babalola, the founder of Afe Babalola University.
During the hearing on Tuesday, Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun postponed ruling on Farotimi’s bail application to December 20.
This decision followed an argument by the police counsel, Samson Osobu, who claimed that the defendant’s bail application was incomplete and improperly filed.
Farotimi’s case has drawn significant public attention due to his reputation as a vocal human rights advocate.
His alleged defamation of Afe Babalola, a respected legal icon and philanthropist, has sparked debates about free speech and the limits of public criticism.
The delay in the bail ruling leaves Farotimi in custody, as legal teams on both sides prepare for the next court session.
