BREAKING: FCT High Court strikes out Yahaya Bello’s bail application

Justice Maryann of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has dismissed the bail application of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, citing procedural flaws.
The judge ruled that the application was prematurely filed, as it was submitted on November 22, before Bello was taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on November 26 and subsequently arraigned on November 27, 2024.
Justice Maryann noted that a bail application could not be considered valid if filed prior to the applicant being in custody. This ruling underscores the importance of adhering to due process in legal proceedings.
Bello, who is facing charges brought by the EFCC, now remains in custody pending further legal actions.
