Aminu Umar-Kankia, a retiree, has called on Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State to take urgent action in raising the monthly pension for retirees.

Speaking in Katsina on Saturday, Umar-Kankia revealed that his current monthly pension stands at only N7,000, with others receiving even less—between N4,000 and N10,000.

He expressed distress over the financial hardship faced by pensioners, who spent the most productive years of their lives serving the state.

Umar-Kankia underscored that the economic challenges, marked by hyper-inflation, have made it difficult for pensioners and their families to sustain themselves.

He noted that the last adjustment to pension rates occurred over a decade ago during former Governor Ibrahim Shema’s tenure.

The retiree pointed to Kaduna as an example, where the administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai increased the minimum pension to N30,000.

He urged the Katsina State government to follow suit and raise the minimum pension to enhance the well-being of retirees.
