Tinubu replaces South East Development Commission’s chairman, appoints new directors

President Bola Tinubu has announced a major shake-up in the leadership of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), replacing Emeka Atuma with Emeka Nworgu as chairman.
The changes were detailed in a statement from Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, who noted that the President has also restructured the board by replacing all three executive directors and adding two new members.
Onanuga confirmed the removal of board member Donatus Eyinnah Nwankpa and highlighted that Mark C. Okoye will continue in his role as the Commission’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer.

The reconstituted board now consists of 16 members, one more than the previous configuration.
Among the key appointments, Stanley Ohajuruka has been named executive director of finance, succeeding Anthony Ugbo. Toby Okechukwu is now the executive director of projects, taking over from Obinna Obiekweihe, while Chief Sylvester Okonkwo replaces Dr. Daniel Ikechukwu Ugwuja as executive director of corporate services.
Additionally, Chidi Echeazu and Clifford Ogbede have been appointed as executive directors without specific portfolios.
The President retained several board members, including Barr. Ugochukwu H. Agballah, Hon. Okey Ezenwa, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor, Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu, Nasiru Usman, and Hamma Adama Ali Kumo. Others who remain in their positions are Edward David Onoja, Orure Kufre Inima, and Joke Adebayo-Chukwuma.
Onanuga emphasized that all appointments are subject to Senate approval and stated that the President expects the new board to leverage their expertise to fulfill the Commission’s mandate of advancing development in the Southeast region.
