Nonso Diobi shares how resemblance to Hilda Dokubo launched his Nollywood career

Popular Nollywood actor Nonso Diobi has revealed how his striking resemblance to veteran actress Hilda Dokubo helped him land his first significant role in the movie industry.

In a recent interview, Diobi shared that during an audition, Hilda Dokubo noticed his resemblance to her and immediately recommended him to the director to play her brother in the movie. This opportunity became a turning point in his career, opening doors to numerous other roles.

The actor expressed his gratitude to Dokubo for her support and encouragement at a critical time in his journey, adding that her recommendation was instrumental in shaping his success in Nollywood.

Speaking in a recent episode of the ‘Nollywood Hardcore’ podcast, Diobi said: “Back to the story of how I got my first movie role. I was at an audition and I started hearing people calling me from afar. I approached. Before I could get close to them, Hilda Dokubo said, ‘This young boy looks like me. He can play my brother.’

“That was how I finally got my first role after three years and more than 1000 auditions. I didn’t even audition for it.”
