Ebonyi gov suspends another commissioner over alleged misconduct

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has indefinitely suspended Uchenna Igwe, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, citing alleged gross misconduct and dereliction of duty.

The announcement, made during a press briefing at the Government House in Abakaliki, detailed that Igwe failed to carry out a directive related to local government pension payments by a council chairman. The suspension takes effect immediately.

This development is the latest in a series of disciplinary actions under Governor Nwifuru’s administration.

In recent weeks, three other commissioners overseeing housing and urban development, water resources, and health were similarly suspended for failing to meet their responsibilities.

Governor Nwifuru reiterated his commitment to accountability and delivering on his administration’s “people’s charter of needs.”

He emphasized that his government will not tolerate negligence or misconduct from public officials, as he works toward achieving good governance for Ebonyi State.
