 Police thwart kidnapping attempt rescue 14 victims in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt on Sunday evening, rescuing 14 victims in Dan’arau village along the Magama-Jibia Road in Jibia Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the attackers, suspected to be armed bandits, ambushed two commercial vehicles and opened fire, intending to abduct their occupants.

Acting swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia LGA led a team of operatives to the scene, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun battle.

The prompt response not only prevented the kidnapping but also ensured the safe rescue of the 14 victims.

However, the incident was not without casualties. Two of the rescued individuals sustained gunshot injuries and were immediately taken to a hospital. Tragically, one of them succumbed to their injuries despite medical intervention.

Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing bandits as investigations continue to uncover further details about the attack.

Commending the officers for their bravery and swift action, Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar, pledged continued efforts to combat criminal activities in the state.

He also urged residents to support the police by providing timely information about suspicious activities.
