Tragedy struck Garbatau, a farming community in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State, as bandits killed a prominent farmer, Alhaji Mai Wanda Maibultu, and abducted six others over the weekend.

Maibultu, a large-scale farmer, was attacked on his farm, while the other victims were kidnapped from the village, located in a mountainous area near Garba Chede town.

According to local residents, the bandits have demanded a ransom of ₦100 million for the release of the abducted farmers.

Adamu Dauda, a resident of nearby Maihula town, disclosed that this is not the first such incident in the area. He recounted a similar attack last year when hundreds of bandits invaded the community, kidnapping several farmers and disrupting their farming activities.

“This time, the farmers were in the process of harvesting their crops, but the kidnappers have disrupted it again,” Dauda lamented, expressing frustration over the recurring attacks.

The incident has sparked renewed concerns over the persistent insecurity in the region, which continues to jeopardize the livelihood of farmers and the food supply chain in the state.
