Hoodlums attack TCN substation under construction in Kogi

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported an attack on its ongoing 330/132/33kV transmission substation project in Obajana, Kogi State.

The assault took place on the night of Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at around 11:55 pm, when a group of unknown armed assailants stormed the construction site.

According to Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, the attackers opened fire indiscriminately, forcing the security guards at the facility to flee.

The assailants caused significant damage, striking a 150MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer that had already been positioned on its plinth, leading to a burst radiator.

TCN has since launched an investigation into the extent of the damage, working closely with the contractor managing the project to assess the situation.

Mbah also emphasized that this attack is part of a troubling trend of vandalism targeting critical transmission infrastructure across the country.

The new Obajana Transmission Substation, once completed, will play a crucial role in improving power supply to Kogi State and its neighboring regions, with a capacity of 1X150MVA 330/132/33kV.
