Edo gov, Obaseki, dissolves cabinet, gets gifts

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has officially dissolved his cabinet ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of Senator Monday Okpebholo, the new governor-elect from the All Progressives Congress (APC), on November 12.
Obaseki, whose tenure began on November 12, 2016, is set to conclude his eight-year administration on the same date in 2024.
The dissolution came after a valedictory session held on Friday at the Government House in Benin. During the session, the motion to dissolve the State Executive Council for 2020-2024 was proposed by Obaseki’s deputy, Godwin Omobayo, and seconded by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Osilama Okuofu.

In his remarks, Obaseki thanked the council members for their dedication in driving the vision of a prosperous Edo State. He also expressed gratitude to the people of Edo for their consistent support and prayers throughout his time in office.
Cabinet members took turns praising the governor’s leadership, highlighting his significant accomplishments across various sectors. They also acknowledged the privilege of serving the people of the state.
In a gesture of appreciation, the outgoing commissioners and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) presented awards and gifts to honour the governor.
The session concluded with a dinner held in Obaseki’s honour.
