Dangote Refinery to begin fuel exports to South Africa, 7 other countries

The Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical complex is preparing to launch fuel exports to South Africa, Angola, and Namibia, PUNCH reported on Saturday.
According to a credible source, discussions with these countries are in advanced stages, with the refinery, which has a production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, aiming to commence fuel lifting soon.
It was further learned that four additional African nations – Niger Republic, Chad, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic – have also entered into negotiations with the refinery.

The newspaper’s source indicated that other countries might soon express interest in securing fuel supplies from the $20 billion refinery located in Lekki.
Ghana recently showed interest in purchasing petrol from the facility. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, Chairman of Ghana’s National Petroleum Authority, remarked that this arrangement could reduce Ghana’s $400 million monthly fuel imports from Europe.
“I can confirm to you that talk is actually at an advanced stage with Ghana, Angola, Namibia, and South Africa, while initial discussions are underway with Niger, Chad, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic,” the source stated.
When questioned on why some marketers remain reluctant to purchase from Dangote despite its high production capacity, the source suggested there might be underlying motives among the dealers.
“However, between now and January 2025, their plan would be exposed. Dangote refinery remains the hope of this country for a sustainable supply of petrol, and the refinery has the capacity to serve the entire country,” the source added.
