15 die along Funtua-Gusau road

At least 15 people have lost their lives, and 13 others sustained injuries following a tragic road accident along the Funtua-Gusau road in Funtua, Katsina State.

This incident was confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Katsina.

The FRSC’s Sector Commander, Mr. Aliyu Ma’aji, shared details of the crash in a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Shamsudeen Babajo, on Saturday.

According to Ma’aji, the accident, which took place on Saturday, involved a Toyota Hiace bus and a Dangote truck. Preliminary findings suggest that the accident was caused by a tyre blowout on the Toyota bus, leading the driver to lose control and collide head-on with the truck.

“The crash claimed the lives of 15 persons, while 13 others sustained various degrees of injuries,” Ma’aji stated. He added that the injured were swiftly transported to Funtua General Hospital by the Funtua Unit Command’s patrol team.

In his message to drivers, Ma’aji urged motorists to inspect their tyres before setting out on journeys and to practice caution on the roads. He advised against speeding, overloading, and reckless driving as precautionary measures to reduce the occurrence of such accidents.
