Tragedy as Russian missile strikes apartment building in Ukraine

A Russian missile struck a 12-storey residential building in Kharkiv, Ukraine, injuring at least 25 people, according to local officials.

Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov confirmed the incident on Telegram early Friday, noting that the explosion caused partial destruction of the building’s first and third floors.

“The number of injured keeps increasing. As of now, there are 25 of them,” Terekhov stated.

Rescue teams were working to free people trapped on the third floor, as reported by Arab News.

Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to Ukraine’s president, condemned the strike, accusing Russia of “deliberately hitting an apartment block.”

“The Russians are also attacking Kyiv with missiles,” Yermak added.

In Kyiv, the city’s military office reported that anti-missile defenses were actively engaged, aiming to protect the capital from additional threats.

In southern Ukraine, the region of Odesa and nearby suburbs were subjected to a wave of drone attacks, resulting in two injuries, according to Governor Oleg Kiper.

On Thursday, Kyiv suffered another large-scale drone attack, described by Ukrainian authorities as “massive,” which left two people wounded and multiple buildings damaged as fires broke out across several districts.

Since Russia’s invasion began on February 24, 2022, Kyiv has repeatedly endured drone and missile attacks, with Moscow showing little sign of relenting.

Ukrainian officials continue to appeal to international allies for advanced air defense systems to counter these persistent assaults.
