Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that the 2027 general election will be a contest between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the people of Nigeria.

Makinde made this statement on Saturday during the inauguration of the Late Olusoji Adagunodo zonal secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

He emphasized that his future political plans would be his own decision, saying, “nobody will set an agenda for me apart from myself.”

The event saw key PDP leaders in attendance, including the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum; Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State; former Governors Samuel Ortom of Benue State and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State; members of the National Working Committee; and other prominent figures from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

Makinde encouraged Nigerians to actively shape the nation’s future leadership, urging PDP members to unify and strengthen their base for the betterment of the country.

“People have been complaining; they have been talking; they have been making a lot of speculations,” he said. “Let me say this again, and I will say it myself: nobody will set an agenda for me apart from myself.”

Addressing alleged interference by the ruling party, Makinde remarked, “If you are accusing the ruling party of interfering with other parties to prevent them from uniting… there are certain things within our control.”

He emphasized the importance of cooperation, particularly with Governor Adeleke, to fortify the party in the South-West, adding, “The next election will be APC versus Nigerians. It is not even about APC versus PDP.”

Osun State Governor Adeleke also spoke, advocating unity within the party: “We must forget the past divisions and unite for the good of our dear party… We must refocus on building strong administrative and operational structures.”

Acting National Chairman Damagum honored the late Adagunodo’s contributions to the PDP and expressed confidence in the party’s ability to reclaim states across the South-West and beyond.
