JUST IN: Gunmen kidnap UNN dean in Enugu

In a troubling series of events, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly abducted Prof. Oguejiofo Ujam, a senior lecturer and Dean of the School of General Studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
Prof. Ujam, who also teaches in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, was allegedly taken on Sunday morning along the Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road, a stretch that has recently seen multiple abductions.
The kidnappers have yet to make any demands for Prof. Ujam’s release, adding to the anxiety surrounding the incident.
Just a day prior, another abduction was reported along the same route, with gunmen kidnapping Emeason Chima, an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Chima was reportedly driving alone near Maduka University in Igbo-Etiti, Enugu State, when he was taken. His captors have since demanded a N50 million ransom.
Unverified reports also indicate that passengers on a commercial bus were abducted on this same road last Friday, intensifying concerns about the escalating insecurity on this route.
Efforts to reach the Enugu State Police Command have so far been unsuccessful, with no official statements on measures being taken.
The frequent abductions along the Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road have led to widespread calls for urgent security intervention. Community members, university staff, and travelers are now urging local authorities to take swift action to safeguard commuters and restore peace in the region.
