Air Peace speaks on rumoured 100 fare increase

Air Peace has responded to circulating online rumours about a claimed 100% increase in fares for domestic flights, categorically dismissing these assertions as false.

The airline made this clarification in a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, emphasizing that the claims did not originate from Air Peace.

The viral message claimed that “effective 1st November 2024, Air Peace would be adding a 100% increase to their fares across all local routes.”

In response, the airline firmly stated: “We categorically state that this information is false and did not originate from Air Peace. We have not released any official statement regarding a fare increase as described.”

Additionally, the statement urged customers to consult only its verified platforms, such as its website and social media accounts, for accurate updates on pricing and fares. “Announcements regarding our pricing would only be made through our verified channels,” the statement emphasized.

Air Peace reiterated its dedication to transparency and customer trust, asserting that there are no plans to increase fares as rumored.

It was earlier reported in some online media that Air Peace, one of Nigeria’s prominent airlines, was rumoured to be implementing new domestic fare adjustments starting November 1, 2024, following the circulation of a viral internal memo on social media.

This memo, allegedly from the airline, outlined substantial fare increases, and further speculation was fueled by confirmation from a senior staff member.

The rumoured memo indicated fare hikes across various booking classes, including a 60% increase for Business Class (J), 115.38% for Economy Class (S), 108.33% for Economy Class (B), and 99.87% for Economy Class (Y), among others. Despite the widespread circulation of these figures, no official statement has validated them, leaving passengers uncertain about future fares.

On October 26, checks on the airline’s website indicated that fares for flights between Abuja and Lagos on October 31 and November 1, 2024, were listed at N143,000. However, earlier checks on October 25 and the preceding days revealed price variations for flights scheduled beyond the rumored adjustment date of November 1.

For example, a one-way flight from Lagos to Abuja booked on October 25 was priced at N285,000 for travel on December 17, 2024. Interestingly, by October 26, the same route was available at a lower fare of N143,000 for the same travel date, suggesting dynamic pricing or adjustments due to market conditions.

The airline has advised travelers to refer to its verified channels for any official announcements regarding fare reviews, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and accurate information.
