New twist as Libya takes major decision on CAF ruling awarding match to Nigeria
Caf

The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has challenged the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to award Nigeria three points and three goals following the disruption of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

As reported by alwasat.ly, the LFF views the ruling as unjust and has enlisted the services of Tunisian lawyer Ali Abbas to contest the verdict.

The contentious Match Day 4 encounter was originally slated to take place in Benina on October 15. However, the Nigerian delegation encountered severe travel difficulties when their flight was rerouted, leaving players and officials stranded in an abandoned airport for over 17 hours.

In addition to the awarded victory, CAF imposed a $50,000 fine on Libya, with the payment required within 60 days of notification.

The appeal seeks to overturn the decision and restore fairness to the qualification process.
