Akpabio : FG files charges against 9 for allegedly spreading false impeachment rumors

The Federal Government has filed a six-count charge against nine individuals and an organization over allegations of spreading false information regarding the rumored impeachment of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The charges, marked as FHC/ABJ/CR/555/2024, were filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja on October 21 by A. A. Yusuf, Deputy Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation.
According to the allegations, the defendants published false information on October 16, claiming that the Department of State Services (DSS) had surrounded the National Assembly to facilitate Akpabio’s impeachment.
The defendants include the Incorporated Trustee of Order Paper, an online platform accused of disseminating the false report, and key individuals associated with it, including its Founder and Executive Director, Oke Epia, and its Head of Operations, Tony Okeke Ofodile.

Also named in the charges are Edna Bill Ulaeto (Admin/Finance Executive), Elizabeth Atime (National Assembly lead reporter), and other Order Paper staff, including Leah Twaki, Regina Udo, Idongesit Joseph Ekoh, and Edoesomi Sharon Omonegho.
The first count accuses Order Paper and its associates of publishing misinformation alleging a DSS siege on the National Assembly, violating Section 24(1)(a) of the Cybercrimes Act, which prohibits spreading false information.
The second count alleges that the defendants intentionally published defamatory statements about the DSS and Senate President Akpabio on October 16.
As of now, the case has not been assigned to a judge.
