2 suspected kidnappers arrested in joint operation

In a successful joint operation between the police and local vigilantes, two suspected kidnappers were arrested in the Ibobo-Abocho community, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The suspects, identified as Umoru Garuba and Salifu Ademu, were apprehended on Tuesday around 2 p.m. after a coordinated chase.

According to reports, the two men had been terrorizing the community for months, instilling fear among the residents.

However, their luck ran out when locals spotted them at their usual hideout and raised an alarm. The swift response from the village vigilantes, along with the Police Quick Response Unit, led to their arrest after a hot pursuit.

The arrest has brought a sense of relief to the Ibobo-Abocho community, as the suspects had allegedly been involved in a series of kidnappings and other criminal activities in the area.

Salami Abdullahi, a resident and member of the community policing in the area, said “For months, the hoodlums laid siege on Ibobo community in Biraidu district, Dekina local government, making life difficult for everyone.

“On Tuesday, acting on a tip-off from the villagers, the operatives of the Kogi State vigilante in a joint operation with operatives of Quick Respond Unit of the state police command apprehended two of the hoodlums, while the others escaped.”

The suspects were said to have been handed over to the police at Anyigba.

The state police command’s spokesman (PPRO), SP Williams Aya, was yet to respond to enquiries on the incident up to the time of filling this report yesterday.
