The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has responded sharply to comments made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, branding him a “serial loser” in Nigeria’s political arena.

Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2019 and 2023 elections, had earlier criticized Wike following the recent local government elections in Rivers State. The Action Peoples Party (APP) emerged victorious in 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions, which Atiku claimed reflected public rejection of Wike.

However, Wike dismissed the criticism, arguing that Nigerians have equally rejected Atiku after his repeated failures in presidential elections.

“We never contested local government elections. Did we contest [Rivers LG election]? Did we pick form?” Wike said during a luncheon held on Saturday in honor of the 10th Legislative Assembly of Rivers State.

He continued, “I hear Atiku Abubakar say, ‘Oh they have rejected me in Rivers State.’ Okay, assuming though not conceding, he had lost so many times, Nigerians have also rejected him.”

Wike went further, calling out Atiku’s losses. “If you say for an election we did not contest, it shows Nigerians have rejected us—fine. But you contested and failed woefully. Nigerians have rejected you. So, pack and go home.”
